Collection: Early Reader Books

These books are FANTASTIC! They are perfect for students to be able to read about topics of interest to them. These books are well planned and thought out. They are full of facts for students to learn and expand their knowledge on these topics. These books are written with thought about the vocabulary so they are decodable and readable by students, but do not lose the facts and information. I cannot wait for my students to get to read each of these in small group and independently as I teach the units whole group. These are a perfect addition to a classroom library, small group sets, or at home reading!

We love these decodable readers. They are perfect for a beginner reader or one who needs extra practice. We have quite a few different beginning readers but these are by far my favorite. The illustrations, storyline, and quality are great.

An extra bonus is the downloadable resource pack that is the perfect accompaniment to the readers. I do wish there was at least 1-2 printed review books to tie everything in together at the end of each set. There is a story available to download from the website but I would have liked one included with the readers. Other than that these are perfect. I purchased the first four sets but will be purchasing the rest of the series.

Many of our kids came into the school year apprehensive about reading. I pull kids 1:1 to read with me and the children are now vying for a spot!!
These books are SOR aligned, engaging, and contain a great storyline - which is always a concern with decodable texts!
I would definitely pick them up if you're looking for quality books :)

As a K-2 Reading Interventionist/Instructional Coach, the classroom teachers I support are often asking if I can share any supplemental resources to use in the classroom. When a first grade teacher came to me asking for some ideas for one of her advanced readers, I knew the Charge Mommy Nonfiction Decodable Science Readers would be perfect! The word lists make it easy for teachers to identify the phonetic skills covered in each text, in order to be sure their students are actually ready to read the each book. In addition, the decodable readers cover concepts that align well with our district’s core reading comprehension program, making some challenging science concepts more accessible for students. I highly recommend these books and would love to see them in all of our first and second grade classrooms! Thank you, Charge Mommy!

As a former Science teacher turned reading interventionist I love these nonfiction books for my students. These decodable books allow my students access to content knowledge that they may not have accessed before except through a read aloud. They feel empowered in their learning with these books! Love these books!

From a pure reading perspective, we have gone through the Charge Mommy series (also love) but these are always focused on a specific phonics pattern. In these books, it’s decodable yet pulls from everything they have learned.

Also the book is divided up into chapters of about 4 pages or so. It makes it less daunting and provides very natural breaks to let your kid read and then you can talk about what they learned.

From a science perspective, these are great books. The content is actually very good at getting into interesting detail without being too long.

The pictures are beautiful and do a great job of supporting what they are learning and providing extra context and explanation.

Finally I doubt there are many decodable science readers. Non-fiction can be more daunting for kids. I think for all of the reasons above that these overcome that barrier and give kids more confidence in reading than being able to tackle fiction books can give.

My students truly enjoy these books. They can access them easily due to the teaching they are doing. They do not mind reading them again and again, because they notice that they are becoming quicker each time. This review will be repeated for each stage, because it is true for each stage. My students are successful and can then move to other books with confidence!

I have not had the chance to use them yet, but in looking through them, they are beautiful, eye-catching! The pictures are just supportive enough for the more complex vocabulary to be understood. The features are perfect for the work that second graders need to complete within the standards, understanding nonfiction text. I think I will use them a lot with my second and third grade struggling readers to incentivize their learning.

We LOVE the whole set of Brooke’s Charge Into Reading Decodeables and I credit them as part of the reason my girls have made such progress with reading. I was so excited when Brooke shared she was working on a set of mid-level decodable science books on a range of topics. When she shared bits for feedback on IG I was blown away with how thoughtful she was about everything- the info being both decodeable for kids ready to read text with vowel teams, yet not at all so simple that they didn’t actually convey real science content. The care she took to select each word, how she formatted the books, included vocab in bold, relevant pictures, labels diagrams, vocab in the back and both science and literacy activities at the end is just incredible. These books are interesting to read, build background knowledge (sooooo important for supporting reading comprehension) and vocabulary on a range on interesting to kids science topics. The books are a nice size and length. They have additional text features not usually included in decodeables - chapters, a table of contents, all words in the book split up by phonics pattern, high frequency words, science specific words and multi-syllable decodable words. I could go on and on. They are so impressive and the content was all reviewed by experts in each scientific topic area. These are a great supplement to a home set of decodable research books, or just to add non-fiction books to your decodable reading. In a classroom they are perfect as part of a text set when learning about a science topic and allows kids to read it themselves working on reading but also supporting building science knowledge. They could be used during a science unit study or for a student chosen research project. Get them!!!

Excellent informational content; great knowledge-building AND DECODABLE!!!! Engaging topics, great photographs and accessible. Kids love them. I can't wait for the next set to come out!

These books have been fantastic! My daughter finally enjoys sitting down to practice her reading. I love that the stories find a way to repeat the sound concepts without actually being repetitive - so no one gets bored!

I heard about this product from instagram and I decided to give it a try. They are AMAZING! My students are going to LOVE these books! Dipthongs are really cool to teach and these texts would be a great resource for any classroom!
